ART & HEALING CLASSES

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way- things I had no words for.”

-Georgia O’Keefe

Residents in the Faith-Centered Therapeutic Sober Living Facility, 12-Step participants, recently incarcerated, and friends of the ministry are given the opportunity to take part in our Art & Healing classes. Art is a transformative medium that helps facilitate the expression and understanding of one’s feelings and actions. Additionally, it provides us with insight as to the driving factors in our decision making processes. An expressive form of group therapy, art therapy awakens opportunities to explore, understand, and resolve issues that may not naturally come up or feel comfortable talking about in regular conversation. This has proved to be particularly

helpful for people with underlying psychological issues related to their past, addiction, or a history of abuse. Art therapy can be a great way for a person to work through the negative experiences that have led to or worsened their struggle. It also gives participants something to take pride in and can build self esteem.

Our long term goal for this program is that it may provide support for Reflections & Recovery as well as jobs for those with felony records. Follow us on social media for future class dates and times.
